Silver Linings Agency is led by a Family Nurse Practitioner with 15+ years in healthcare, much of it in long-term care. We provide in-home care for seniors and individuals with disabilities across the Greater Bangor area, from a few hours a week to 24-hour care.
We're licensed by the State of Maine, and every one of our caregivers is PSS (Personal Support Specialist) or CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certified.
Why This Work Is Personal
We're Melissa Bicknell and Michael Pare, a sister and brother team who have owned Silver Linings Agency since January 2025. Before that, we managed a family member's care ourselves.
The agencies we tried didn't work out. The caregivers we hired directly were wonderful, but a caregiver you hire on your own is only one person. Every sick day, vacation, or bit of time off left a gap, and the gap landed on us. Filling it at the last minute was stressful, sometimes frightening, and expensive. We realized we were, in effect, running an agency of our own.
We wanted the best of both worlds: caregivers as good as the ones we'd found ourselves, and a team behind them so care never takes a day off. That's what we've built at Silver Linings Agency.
Meet Our Bangor Home Care Team
Melissa Bicknell
President/Owner
Melissa was born and raised in the Bangor, Maine area and has been a healthcare practitioner for over 15 years. She has practiced as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Registered Nurse, and Family Nurse Practitioner. Before joining silver linings she worked as a provider and clinical director in the long term care setting. Throughout her career, Melissa has been passionate about enhancing quality of life for the elderly and supporting the dedicated professionals who provide that care.
Shawna Donnay
Agency Manager
Shawna is our agency extraordinaire, bringing years of service-industry experience, leading teams both small and large, to her role as Agency Manager. She oversees day-to-day operations, meets with clients to develop personalized care plans, and supports caregivers through training, scheduling, and outreach. She is passionate about helping clients live with dignity at home, and fostering a positive work environment where we can provide the best care possible to our clients.
